The School of Computing and Creative Media (SCM), UTS had successfully conducted a service-learning program for the course CSS3513 Data Communication and Networking under the supervision of Ms. Khairunnisa binti Ibrahim, Mr. Gary Loh, Mr. Chang Wui Lee and Mr. Muhammad Asraf bin Zulkarnain. This program was organized following the Service-Learning Malaysia University for Society initiative (SULAM), which was introduced by the Ministry of Education in order to produce a holistic, entrepreneurial and balanced graduates of higher learning institutions.
A total of 65 students from Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) programme were brought three times to Rumah Jimbun in Bawang Assan, Sibu to engage with the community there, embracing their culture and at the same time, carrying out their course assignment and project within the community’s environment. The program was successful in result from a very good cooperation from the community’s side, especially from the community’s representative, Mr. Macarthy anak Gindau.
We hope this program can deepen our students’ academic learning, simultaneously build stronger relationships between them beyond campus, and prepare them more effectively for their post academic journey.
