Date: 28th-29th April 2018
Venue:Â DRAC, UCTS
The School of Computing and Creative Media (SCM) in collaboration with Marketing Department had successfully organized Young Innovators Challenge (YIC) Train-the-trainer (TTT) training for nine secondary school teachers together with nine UCTS students at DRAC, UCTS on 28th and 29th April 2018. The nine participating secondary schools were SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Methodist, SMK Lanang, SMK Kampung Nangka, SMK Sungai Merah, SMK Rosli Dhoby, SMK Bukit Lima, SMK Deshon and SMK Tiong Hin. This training was conducted by two Chumbaka trainers.
During the 2-day workshop, the trainees were aspired to bring back the awe of discovery and the fun of creativity in STEM subjects using Arduino. Trainees worked on Arduino projects that were in their area of interest, which drove them to explore the hardware and software aspects of an embedded system. This workshop created an environment where trainees could develop their life skills, such as communication, critical thinking, and tenacity through the process of trying things out to figure out how things work and applying what they have learned in their projects. The trainees were happy to gain new knowledge and thankful for the opportunity given to explore on Arduino. The participating schools were given nine sets of Arduino Professional kits which they could use for YIC state-level competition, RBT classes or club activities. UCTS students who serve as YIC mentors will be working hand in hand with the teachers from respective schools to conduct Arduino Outreach Workshop to contribute what they had learnt in the training back to the community in May or June 2018 before the competition.
