MTIB UTS TANGGAM Fest: Borneo Chapter 2024 – Pesta Nengkebang Kayu took place on December 18-19, 2024, at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) in Sibu, Sarawak. This vibrant event celebrated the region’s timber and furniture design industry, bringing together local and international designers, craftsmen, and industry leaders to explore innovation, sustainability, and cultural heritage through wood-based furniture design. The festival featured a diverse range of activities, including a timber and woodworking workshop, where participants honed their skills in traditional and modern woodworking techniques.

A series of seminars and sharing sessions offered valuable insights into sustainable design practices, innovation, and the future of the furniture industry. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with experts, exchanging ideas and collaborating on potential projects. A cultural dinner night marked the festival’s social highlight, with a traditional dance performance that showcased the rich cultural heritage of Borneo. The night provided a unique opportunity for networking in a relaxed, festive atmosphere while celebrating local traditions. The event’s opening speech by the Vice Chancellor of UTS emphasized the festival’s role in bridging the region’s shared history with its exciting future. Ts. Farydatul Nazly Mohd Zin, Deputy General Director of MTIB, highlighted the importance of the festival in enhancing creativity and skills within the industry, while also promoting the TANGGAM label as a mark of quality. Pesta Nengkebang Kayu successfully fostered creativity, collaboration, and sustainability, leaving a lasting impact on the development of Borneo’s furniture design community.
