Integrating Ethical Reflexivity in Research Projects

On 10th August 2016, researchers from the School of Computing and Creative Media, UCTS made a visit to Bawang Assan longhouses together with researchers from University of Namur, Belgium.  The visit was to identify some local places nearby Sibu for a collaboration in doing Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) tapping into the opportunity given by the European Commission grants.  The visit was not only limited to Bawang Assan longhouses, but also the team visited the newly setup 1Malaysia Internet Centre nearby.  The visit and also workshop at UCTS from 9th – 11th August 2016 will be the starting point of collaboration between UCTS, University of Namur and UNIMAS.

The RRI workshop “Integrating Ethical Reflexivity in Research Projects” aimed at introducing its respective audience with a particularly important aspect of RRI, namely ethics.  The event came in a moment of growing importance of RRI as a novel governance framework for research and innovation in Europe, one that puts particular emphasis on ethics, public engagement, gender equality, science education and open science.  The invited speakers were Prof. Phlippe Goujon who is the director of the Laboratory for Ethical Governance of information Technology (Legit) and Professor at the faculty of informatics of the University of Namur (Belgium), Dr Blagovesta Nikolova who is a postdoctoral researcher at the Legit in the University of Namur, Belgium and Dr Tariq Zaman, lecturer from Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, UNIMAS and also a Postdoctoral research fellow in the Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations, UNIMAS.
