Student from Bachelor of Digital Media Won Second Place

Date: October
Venue: Online

On 1st October 2021, the Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia organized a mural drawing competition on ASEAN 2021 with the theme “We care, We Prepare, We prosper”. The competition has started from 1st until 31th October 2021. Francis Bong Vun Hong is a 2nd-year student from the Bachelor of Digital Media, was won second place in the competition. He has participated in competitions in the open category and IPTA/IPTS. He also won RM1500 in cash, certificates, and trophies. He also shared his experience about participating in that competition. He thought this mural was to submit in digitally. However, after going through the rule and regulations, it’s clear that the mural design can only be hand-drawn. It’s been a while since paint traditionally. He said, to be honest, drawing traditionally is never a thing for him but it’s worth trying. Being bad at water coloring, he had no choice but to use other coloring media. Color pencils are his main coloring tool for this drawing. His other media choices are marker pens such as Posca marker pens and Artline pens. Posca marker pens for coloring large areas of spaces or as base colors while Artline pens for outlines. Posca marker pens are good because they provide vivid and clean flat base color which allows further color mixing by using color pencils. To ensure the growth of the course Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Digital Media (BDM), his lecturer actively explored any available competitions for his students. At the same time, these competitions allow us, students, to improve our skills besides acting as a portfolio for future uses.
