Junior Innovate Train-the Trainer Workshop was held on 28th and 29th June 2018 in UCTS for eighteen primary schools teachers from nine schools. The nine participating primary schools were SJK Thai Kwang, SJK Hang Kwong, Sekolah Kebangsaan Abang Ali, SJKC Tung Hua, SJK Su Lai, SK Perbandaran Sibu No. 4, SK Bandaran Sibu No. 3, SJK C Chung Sing, and SK Ulu Sungai Merah. Junior Innovate Program is aimed to inspire digital creator mindset and life skills amongst primary school students. This training was conducted by Chumbaka trainer, Mr. Nigel Sim and facilitated by two YIC mentors, Mr. David Lim and Mr. Firdaus.
During the 2-day workshop, the trainees were aspired to discover the fun learning in embedded system with Scratch programming. The trainees were trained to realize ideas by building physical projects. They were given a challenge to upcycle/hack the toys by applying what they had learnt. Junior Innovate program is also a platform to apply English where participants need to present their projects in a form of creative story telling. The trained teachers will impart the knowledge learnt from this workshop to their respective schools’ students and guide them in Junior Innovate Competition.
