Dr Firdaus won 2nd place in IIC 2019

On the 16th of July 2019, Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Firdaus Abong Abdullah, a lecturer from School of Computing and Creative media has won 1st Runner-up (Naib Johan) for his invention ‘An Innovative Reuse of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Food Container as Core Material for Mobility Equipment Production’ in the Inclusive Innovation Challenge 2019. His project concerned an innovative reuse of Styrofoam or Polystyrene food containers as core material for mobility equipment construction through Composited EPS Techniques (CET), a technique developed by himself. The main objective of the project is to reduce EPS waste, generating SME’s products and financial incomes for local communities, and protecting the environment. The major consideration for the project are:- Establish cost effective method; Low tech solution; Good financial gain; SME commercialization; Benefit health and environment; Identify suitable product.

Inclusive Innovation Challenge 2019, Sarawak Zone, is a high impact programme (HIP6) under the Malaysia SME Master Plan organized and conducted by the Malaysia Innovation Foundation (Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia), an agency under Kementerian Tenaga, Sains, Teknologi, Alam Sekitar & Perubahan Iklim (MESTECC). This competition is aimed at providing opportunities to Malaysians who have creative and innovative ideas in finding affordable and inclusive innovation to solve problems in the aspects of usability, productivity, education, and health, which are often encountered daily by residents around their respective states throughout Malaysia.
